Chapter 22
CHANCE
15TH APRIL
âDear Lacey,
âIâm writing you this letter because a pinky promise is a pinky promise. Plus you made me lock it too and Iâm not one to break promises, especially to my best friend. Here it goes. I got my first boner. I woke up this morning and it was there. There I said it. I have fulfilled the pinky promise law. We didnât promise I had to go into detail so the pinky promise is complete. Possibly burn this letter after you read it so there isnât any evidence of this conversation ever happening.
If nothing else I hope this puts a smile on your beautiful face. I miss your face and all your different smiles. I miss the dark freckle above your right eyebrow. I miss the chicken pox scar between your eyes (my mum was right about it scarring if you scratched it.) I miss your shaggy hair. Is it wrong for me to hope you still donât brush it? Is that weird? Are you still wearing pink wherever you go?
Is it wrong for me to hope you havenât changed much? Iâm being selfish, I know but I donât care. I donât want to miss any part of my best friendâs life. If youâve changed then Iâve missed something and thinking Iâve missed something important makes me upset because I donât want to miss anything.
Iâm rambling and if you were here, youâd call me out on it but the gist of it is, I really miss my best friend. Iâve missed you since the minute you drove away and every minute thereafter.
Your dad saw me being a loner by myself out in the yard one day and came out and gave me a picture of you in your school uniform. The uniform is horrendous. I feel sorry for you having to wear it every day. Question: Does it itch? It looks like it does.
Theo, yes Theodore, goes by Theo now. Apparently Theodore wasnât cool enough for high school so he is now Theo formally known as Theodore. Well heâs gone girl crazy. You should see him flirting with all the girls. I donât think heâs any good at it because most of them get the same look on their faces you used to have when youâd look at him. You know the look Iâm talking about, where you scrunch your nose like something stinks? Yes! That look.
And no, for your information, I donât flirt with any girls. Iâm scared they might give me the same look if I even tried.
High school is a lot different to primary school, isnât it? Whatâs your school like? Have you made some new friends? I hope youâre okay, Lace. I miss you terribly. I know I already said it but I wanted to drive the point home about how much I miss you.
Well you know where I live so Iâm hoping youâll write me back. I walked over and got your address from your dad so I could send you this letter.
